Welcome from President Glenda
Our history as a club is brief; however, we are the culmination of two clubs which have come together, bringing a combined history of some ninety-six years.
Many, many years ago I was asked as a young girl what I want to be remembered for. That’s a big ask for a fourteen-year-old. My response? “To make a difference!”
Many years later, I recognised that it is much easier to make a difference when you are one of 1.2 million people working together to “make a difference”.
Through Rotary, I have helped to bring safe water to impoverished communities, helped to save the lives of tens of thousands of women giving birth, helped to prevent thousands of young girls from being raped or excluded from receiving a quality education; helped young men and women learn the art of leadership and most importantly, helped to eradicate polio around the globe – yes! that is a Rotary initiative and we are almost there.
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation, recognised as the top charity in the world, has distributed billions of dollars to achieve this mission.
Our club projects move and change as the need arises – but always with the focus of meeting Rotary’s aims.
If your dream is to “make a difference” I can’t think of a better way than to join us, bring your ideas and feel the wonder as you experience the power of one to the power of 1.2 million people “doing good in the world”.
I look forward to welcoming you.
Inaugural President - 2020-2021
