It was with much sadness our Club announced the Death of our much loved member in 2016.

7 January 1922 – 21 February 2016

Passed peacefully surrounded by family at Estia Nursing Home, Lockleys aged 94 having only recently moved there from his family home of decades located at Plympton.

• Inducted to the Rotary Club of Adelaide West (now Adelaide Central) 16 May 1974, 10 years after the Club's charter in January 1964.

• Rotary Club of Adelaide West : President 1978/79

• Rotary International District 9500 : District Governor 1983/84

• Awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 1991

Alan was one of the most remarkable people in the history of Adelaide West Club. Even in his 90s, we continued to be astounded about the wealth of Rotary information Alan continued to share with newer Rotarians, straight off the tip of his tongue. Sharp as a tack!

Self employed for 57 years, Alan ran Importing; Building and Real Estate, Development businesses.

Pre World War II, he was heavily into Scouting. Kings Scout, Gilwell Badge. Long Service Award.

War Service, Australian Army, 6 years. Post war, organizer 65 Reunions.

Author two magnificent Army books: Outback Corridor and Convoys Up The Track

Councillor, City of West Torrens, 1954-58

Foundation Trustee, West Beach Recreation Reserve Trust

Justice of the Peace since 1954

1981, led a Rotary FAIM work team, 1st of six teams, to Kimil, a small indigenous village in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea, to build a hospital building, a maternity block, and 3 small houses.

Served as a member of many District Committees Nationally, for 8 years, wrote quarterly articles in RDU as RAWCS's newsletter editor. Served as Chairman National IPAC Committee.

For Institute of Governors, served on the Agenda Committee for Institute in Hobart 1985; as Chair of Management Committee. Sesqui-Centenary Institute Glenelg 1986.

D9500 representative at Council-on-Legislation in Singapore1989.

Rotary Paul Harris Fellow with 5 Sapphire Pins and 4 Ruby Pins – Rotary's highest honour for contributions to the Rotary Foundation.

Awarded The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service.

Made a member of D9500 Paul Harris Society.

Most recently for Rotary Adelaide West Club, in his early 90s, Alan finalised a 4 year long A$100,000+ project working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kahtoum in the Sudan, building Hafirs (Dams), water pumping and filtration equipment to supply clean, fresh water to around 8,000 people, livestock and crops across about one dozen villages. To this day, revolutionising their health and daily lives.

WOW - What can we say but ... What a Distinguished Career!!

Rotary Adelaide Central Club continues to miss Alan dearly.
