Rotary Adelaide Central supported Projects

The Rotary Foundation

The Rotary Foundation is Rotary's international Charitable Trust supported by all Clubs and Members worldwide, plus many generous philanthropic members of the public and businesses ... such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from all of these people who share a vision of a better world

Many make a Tax Deductible Donation to The Rotary Foundation. Virtually every Dollar received goes direct to the Foundation - not chewed up in Administration fees. Less than 3% of money raised is apportioned to ADMIN.

In the 2018 Calendar Year, the Rotary Foundation disseminated US$86.6 Million across 1,306 worldwide grants. Of this:-

  •  41.1% to Prevent Disease
  •  21.6% to Providing Clean Water
  •  12.7% to Supporting Education
  •  12.1% to Growing local Economies
  •    8.3% to Saving Mothers & Children
  •    4.1% to Promoting Peace

The Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International's sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world". Over this Century, more than US$4 Billion has been invested in life changing, sustainable projects worldwide.

Rotary Adelaide Central is committed to continue to support our Foundation every year, noting a key project funded by the Foundation is Rotary's own END POLIO NOW campaign, with Rotary's passion and determination to achieve eradication of Polio within the next few years.

Clubs Like Ours can also Apply to benefit from Foundation Funds

In 2009 we partnered with the Rotary Club of Khartoum in the Sudan, Africa (and other local Rotary Clubs) to build two giant Hafir's (dams) with filtration systems and pumps to supply fresh, clean drinking and agricultural water to 8 villages and 6,000 people.

Previously, these people drank muddy water hauled out of a well by bucket and carried by hand and donkey for many kilometers (in many cases) back to their homes.

TODAY - these people have clean water and the ability to become self sufficient, healthy and forge new lives for their families and communities. This is the work of the Foundation (around $50,000 committed to this one project) working in partnership with Clubs to achieve major goals in our world.

OUR IMMENSE THANKS to the Rotary Club of Khartoum for their enormous efforts locally to plan, fund (starting with $US17,000) enact and monitor this project! Photos published on this website have been supplied at great effort from Khartoum members, noting the Hafirs are over 700km from their Club, requiring traveling dusty, rocky, poor quality roads.

MANY THANKS also to The Rotary Foundation for support of this fantastic international project. A magnificent achievement of just one of Rotary's primary goals ... to provide clean water to people of the world.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

People often ask us ...
"do you have to be a Rotarian to assist with this invaluable work?"

The short answer is "NO!".

Anyone around the world can support The Rotary Foundation and their local Rotary Club to further the work of the Foundation.

Some people get directly involved in individual projects, even at grass roots level by visiting a project in a Country to volunteer their expertise, time and passion.

Please visit our Club at any time. Have a chat to our members. We're all people just like you, keen to make a difference in our World both locally and abroad.
